Do you ever feel guilty for taking a vacation? Thoughts run through your mind of how much work there is still to be done, how much work it is to pack to leave for vacation, how much work there will be when you get home! All these thoughts are the reason you need to go on a vacation!

There is science behind how important vacation is to our mental, physical, and emotional health. I would say all of these contribute to the health of your marriage as well!

A study done at Cornell University found  that money spent on doing something will leave you with a longer-lasting sense of happiness than money spent on having something

“Waiting for experiences tends to be more positive than waiting for possessions.", the study says. And, it goes on to say that people get more happiness from the anticipation of doing something  and that waiting for that experience tends to be more pleasurable and exciting than waiting to get something.

Vacation makes you happy because it is an experience!

Stress of the day to day of routine is overcome by taking some time away to recharge. We all need a change of scenery from time to time. Change of routine and in a different environment will allow us to disconnect from the normal day to day and recharge our mental health.

A study done by the Global Commission on Aging and Transamerica Center for Retirement Studies, in partnership with the U.S. Travel Association,  finds that travel decreases the risks of heart attacks! The study determined that men who take an annual vacation are 30% less likely to die from heart disease.

Whether your vacation is to the sunny south, skiing out west, or overseas, you will move more and experience a different pattern of physicality than in your normal day to day routine.

All of these benefits to vacation will strengthen your marriage! All too often we get set in our ways in both our personal life as well as our married life. Changing it up, moving out of our comfort zone will decrease the stress in our marriage, recharge our relationship, and grow us closer! So the next time those thougths run through your mind about why not to go on vacation remember that your mind and your body need a vacation as does your marriage! Science says so!

Schedule your next vacation today and strengthen your marriage!
